Joe Company, PhD founded ECo in 2010, but prior to this he coached at the high school and collegiate level, worked with Olympic training programs, and worked with a number of high-performance athletes, scientists, researchers, and coaches.  Joe began consulting endurance athletes in 2002, but as he evolved in his education and experience, he wanted to make his expertise available to more people.  ECo is the product of Joe's experience.

ECo Epic Endurance Weekend

Do you want to test your limits without the pressure and cost of an endurance race? Do you want to incorporate a BIG training weekend into your schedule? Here is your chance! The 2016 Endurance Company Epic Weekend consists of up to 10,000 meters swimming, 208 miles biking, and 26.2 miles running spread over three days.  Anyone who can complete the entire distance is "ECo EPIC!"

The objective is to provide a unique endurance challenge that is independent of competition, high entry fees, and congestion. Rather, this event provides you with an enormous endurance challenge along side like-minded people in a fun, group atmosphere. Epic finishers get the 240 sticker!

Beth Calabotta SWIM CHALLENGE: 10k

7:00  a.m.

LOCATION:  Sheridan Swim Club, Quincy, IL

Enjoy the beautiful 50m outdoor pool. Athletes have the option of a  1.5k, 5, or 10k swim. 

This is not only part of our EPIC weekend, but it is also a fundraiser for metastatic cancer research.  Information HERE:

For athletes who want to be considered "ECo EPIC" you must complete the 10k swim.  You have 5 hours to complete the 10k swim.

Swim cut-off time:  12:00


 11:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m.

relax and eat (and nap??) at Sheridan Swim Club and prepare for the bike ride. Lunch will be provided at Sheridan.



BIKE: 60 miles

1:00 p.m.

60-mile bike ride from Quincy, IL to Bowling Green, MO. 

Assume that this portion will be self-supported. Be sure to bring adequate water and nutrition. There will be a SAG vehicle that will take your equipment from Quincy to Bowling Green.  This vehicle will have gels, water, etc, but don't count on the vehicle being available when you need nutrition (in other words, plan ahead and assume this is a self-supported ride). The SAG vehicle will be on call if you have a mechanical or need to be picked up somewhere en route to Bowling Green.

BIKE: 148 miles

7:00 a.m.

148-mile bike from Bowling Green, MO to Columbia, MO (we said EPIC, right??). 

We will have a vehicle taking your equipment from Bowling Green to Columbia. The vehicle may serve as SAG, but ultimately you will be responsible for nutrition, hydration, etc. The SAG vehicle will have water, gels, and some food, but don't count on the SAG vehicle to be available when you need nutrition. The SAG vehicle will be on call if you have a mechanical or need to be picked up. There will be stops in Middletown (21 miles into the ride), Jonesburg, (about 47 miles into the ride), Hermann (about 657 miles into the ride), Mokane (about 96 miles into the ride), New Bloomfield (about 116 miles into the ride), and Ashland (about 129 miles into the ride).

RUN: 26.2 miles

6:00 a.m.

Heart of America Marathon! This is one of the oldest and toughest marathons in the U.S.  Enjoy some of Columbia's most beautiful and challenging roads as you complete your EPIC challenge with this 26.2 mile run!


To be considered "ECo EPIC," you must run the entire marathon. We can arrange 'pick up places' along the course for athletes who want to run less than the entire marathon.
