2011: 60-mile mountain bike race, Rim-to-Rim run (44 miles), marathon finisher
2011 was the year of endurance events for me. In January I had signed up for Cascade 100 mountain bike race, which would be my first mountain bike event. I knew 100 miles on a mountain bike would be an epic event, so I needed a plan to guide me with my training that was challenging, consistent & customized to meet my work schedule.
I met with Joe and we went over my past race/training experience along with my goals and race schedule for the next year. He customized a training plan to help meet my goals. He made suggestions for races that would help boost the aerobic training that I would need to complete a 100 mile mountain bike race.
Joe’s training plan helped me complete many epic journeys in 2011. I successfully accomplished my first 60 mile mountain bike race at Ouachita Challenge, Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim Grand Canyon (44 miles run/hike), Triple-T Triathlon, and Portland Marathon.
Even though I did not quite finish The Cascade 100 mountain bike race, the journey along the way was unforgettable. I learned some valuable lessons on that long day in the saddle. The most valuable being that even though I wasn’t doing as well as I had wished; I was living in the moment! I was participating in an epic event and that was the victory for the day!
