Change is the key to growth!

This post was inspired after leading a weekend triathlon camp. For those of you who didn’t get the chance to attend, check out the video summary.

As the guy who leads the camps, it is interesting to meet people and observe their willingness to learn, to accept new ideas, and to change their way of training. Many people are set in their ways and the things I say fall on deaf ears. While others are open to growth and listen with an open mind.

Evolution is natural. And learning, adapting, growing, changing,… all these things are part of evolution.

I strive for the “best” ways to do things. So, when I give a talk or do a job, I do it the “best” way! Why would I choose to do something in a way I didn’t find the best?!?!).  BUT, I’m always on the lookout for BETTER ways. ALWAYS!

I’m willing to replace my “best” way with a new “best” way.

My current message is the manifestation of years of looking for the best way of doing something. My message now is different than it was 5 years ago, and it is most likely different than it will be in 5 years. I’m OK with this. I’m OK with admitting that I’m in the process of evolving. I’m OK with change.

Back to the camp. I was impressed with those that came with an open mind. Those athletes will grow and improve and continue to evolve into the best versions of themselves. Not because of me. But because they seek to find knowledge and wisdom in experiences.

And that’s why I put on the camps. So I can give people the chance to grow, learn, and improve.

I’m considering making this a monthly event. Something like “ECo Super Sunday.” We would do indoor training in the winter, then transition to outside training in the spring and summer. I think there is a lot of value in accountability and training with people once in a while.

Here’s a summary video of our camp:
